AFRY to be engineering partner in Fortum’s hydrogen study in Raahe, Finland

Fortum and the steel company SSAB have launched a joint commercial feasibility study and technical FEED (Front End Engineering Design) study to explore the possibilities of producing hydrogen-reduced fossil-free sponge iron in Raahe, Finland. In line with its strategy, Fortum wants to drive the development of a hydrogen economy in the Nordics together with its customers and partners.

Political pressure for fossil-free fuel for European aviation is intensifying. Valmet receives the 19th order from Hitachi Zosen Inova

Valmet will supply a Valmet DNA Automation System to an energy-from-waste (EfW) facility under construction in Essex, the United Kingdom. The order was placed by Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI), which is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor of the facility. This is the nineteenth time that HZI has chosen Valmet’s automation technology for its EfW plant projects. The plant owned by Indaver Rivenhall Ltd. will be started up in 2026.

AFRY contributes to Liquid Sun’s technology development

AFRY had a pivotal role in assisting Liquid Sun to define the crucial steps towards the development of an operational hydrocarbon electrolyzer prototype. Through a collaborative partnership, AFRY provided support to Liquid Sun, setting the stage for the realisation of this technology to replace fossil fuels with synthetic hydrocarbons.

Valmet to convert Helen Ltd’s coal-fired district heat boiler to a pellet-fired BFB boiler at the Salmisaari power plant

Valmet is to convert Helen Ltd’s coal-fired district heat boiler to bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) combustion to enable wood pellet firing at the Salmisaari ‘A’ power plant in Helsinki, Finland. The conversion promotes the company’s goal of phasing out coal and at the same time strengthens the construction of a sustainable energy system. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the second quarter 2023. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The converted boiler will be handed over to the customer in January 2025.
