Study shows benefits of recycling paper sacks
The 4evergreen alliance sets out to increase the recycling rate of fibre-based packaging to 90% by 20301. Accessing industrial packaging such as paper sacks as new fibre source can be part of the solution. The European sack kraft paper and paper sack industry commissioned independent research in the recyclability of paper sacks. The study2 concludes that not only are used and unused paper sacks perfectly recyclable. They also offer product and process benefits when incorporated into the recovered fibre furnish. Closing the loop with paper carrier bags

4evergreen wins European Paper Recycling Award
The 4evergreen alliance has won a prestigious award from the European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) in the ‘Information and Education’ category. The award recognises 4evergreen’s work on the ‘Guidance on the Improved Collection and Sorting of Fibre-based Packaging for Recycling’, which provides best practices and recommendations to enhance fibre-based packaging recycling across Europe.

Reaching 2040 targets won’t be easy as economic feasibility is uncertain
The EU Commission published its communication on 2040 climate targets. A non-binding text which starts a process to fix a new milestone for the Union’s CO2 emission levels. The proposed target is ambitious, as called for by the scientific community. It should first and foremost be based on complex economic and physical realities that no unique scenario proposed by the Commission properly assesses.
Valmet and Saipem sign Memorandum of Understanding
Valmet and Saipem have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop joint solutions to decarbonize the industrial sectors that face significant challenges in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, also known as hard-to-abate industries. The companies will collaborate to offer effective solutions combining Saipem’s technologies for CO2 management with the heat recovery and flue gas treatment units engineered and produced by Valmet for the pulp, paper and energy segments, thus bringing integrated and flexible options to their customers in both existing and new facilities.

Södra: Test run of new planting machine shows promising results
Södra’s venture in a new advanced technique for better seedling survival was recently field tested with promising results. Södra’s ambition with the in-house developed BraSatt 01 planting machine is to accelerate technical advances in forest regeneration, which could potentially lead to considerable improvements for forestry.
